The undergraduate admission of SUSTech adopts comprehensive evaluation enrollment mode based on national college entrance examination.The graduate admission of SUSTech currently adopts joint training mode.

The main duties of SUSTCEF is to accept the donations from the domestic and foreign associations, enterprises, trading companies and individuals, and establish the funding projects depending on the demands of the university and the wishes of the donors.

THE Shenzhen-based Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) ranks No. 28 among universities on the Chinese mainland on the Nature index released by the U.K.-based Nature Index Publishing Group recently.

The other local university, Shenzhen University, is No. 39 in the ranking.

For the year 2018, the index ranked universities based on the percentage of authors who have published articles between Oct. 1, 2017, and Sept. 30, 2018.

Among the mainland universities, Beijing University ranks first in the nation and No. 8 in the world. Tsinghua University follows Beijing University at No. 10 in the world index. The other top 10 mainland universities are Nanjing University, Science and Technology University of China, University of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Zhejiang University, Fudan University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Suzhou University and Nankai University. The 10 universities also entered the world’s top 50 in the ranking.

In the world ranking, SUSTech rose from No. 186 last year to No. 147 this year, while Shenzhen University rose 96 places to No. 244.

The Nature Index is a new scientific research evaluation index that has been published by the Nature Publishing Group since 2014. It tracks the number of papers published in 82 high-quality natural science journals like Nature, and Science and Cell, which are commonly used in the basic science fields, such as chemistry, earth and environmental science, life science and physics.

This method of evaluating international scientific research institutions at the highest academic level is of critical importance, as it will determine their reputations, helping attract faculty and students as well as funding.

SUSTech is a young university, with the Shenzhen city government making the decision to create it in March 2007. Its first president, Zhu Qingshi, was selected in June 2009. In 2011, it admitted its first 45 students.

In April 2012, the university was approved by the Ministry of Education.
