Established by the Municipality of Shenzhen, the Southern University of Science and Technology is a publicly funded university in the Guangdong Province. 

The SUSTech cultivates quality talents with perfect personality, solid foundation, excellent ability, international view, social responsibility, innovative spirits and practical ability through the leading talent cultivation system on the basis of credit system, tutor system and college system and taking personalized, small class and international as features of talent cultivation.

The SUSTech has been determined as the experimental school of national higher education comprehensive reform. In April 2012, the Ministry of Education agreed to establish the school and give the school a great mission to explore the modern university system Chinese characteristics and training mode of innovative talents.

The Global Engagement Office (GEO) is responsible for forming and implementing a coherent strategy to promote the University’s international development and global profile.

SUSTech will adopt management mode of collegiate system for undergraduate students and create a wonderful college life for students by taking platforms such as college, Youth League Committee and communities as carriers.

The undergraduate admission of SUSTech adopts comprehensive evaluation enrollment mode based on national college entrance examination.The graduate admission of SUSTech currently adopts joint training mode.

The SUSTech Education Foundation consists of board of directors, board of supervisors and secretariat. The board of directors is the top of the power structure of the foundation; the board of supervisors is responsible to check finance and accounting information in accordance with law and regulations; secretariat is the standing administrative unit of the foundation, which is responsible to the daily work of the foundation under the leading of leaders in the board of directors.

GUO Yurong 

Chairperson of University Council

GUO Yurong received her Master Degree in Physical Geography from Sun Yat-Sen University. From 1994 to 1997, GUO participated in a government-funded international training program in Canada, Australian and the United States. From 1988 to 2016, GUO served in an array of key positions in the government of Shenzhen Municipality, including Director of Education Bureau and Director of the Environmental Protection Bureau.

In June, 2016, GUO Yurong was appointed Chairwoman of University Council of the Southern University of Science and Technology.




Professor CHEN Shiyi studied mechanics and received his first degree in 1981 from Zhejiang University and received a MSc degree and a PhD degree from Peking University in 1984 and 1987.
From 1987 to 1994, he was post-doctoral fellow/Oppenheimer Fellow/research staff/group leader at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, USA. Prof. CHEN joined John Hopkins University in 2001, and promoted to the Alonzo G. Decker Jr. Chair in Engineering and Science in 2005. From 2011 to 2015, Prof. CHEN was Dean of Graduate School of Peking University and then Vice President for Research.
​In January, 2015, he took office as​ the President of the Southern University of Science and Technology.


 Vice-Chairperson of University Council

LI Fengliang holds a PhD degree in literature from Jinan University. He is also a post doctor from Sun Yat-sen University (SYSU) and a visiting scholar from the University of Southern California, a national candidate for the "National Talent Program".

From 1994-1998, he worked on teaching, research and management at Jiangsu Normal University, Jinan University and SYSU successively. In 2008, he was transferred to Shenzhen University as Vice President and Party Committee Member, and worked concurrently as Dean of the College of Entrepreneurship, Dean of the Institute for Cultural Industries, Director of the National Center for Cultural Innovation Research and Chief Editor of Journal of Shenzhen University (Humanities & Social Sciences).

He was appointed as Vice Chairperson of University Council of Southern University of Science and Technology in October 2016.



QIN Zheng

Professor QIN Zheng was was appointed as the Vice-President for Administration of SUSTech in June, 2011.

Professor QIN received his master’s degree and PhD from Xidian University in 1991 and 1994 respectively. He finished his post-doctoral research in Xi'an Jiaotong University in 1996. He taught in Xi'an Jiaotong University from 1996 to 2005, during which he once served as Deputy Director at the Department of Student Affairs. He was promoted to Associate Professor in 1996, Professor in 1999 and Doctoral Supervisor in 2000. He served as Dean of the School of Information Management and Engineering, Shanghai University of Finance and Economics between 2005 and 2011.

WU Chuanyue

Vice-President, Education

Professor WU Chuanyue is the Chair Professor of Changjiang Scholars Program as well as a member of the “1000 Talents Plan”. 

He joined SUSTech as a Leading Professor in May, 2012. He was than appointed as the Provost and Vice-President of Education.

Prior to joining SUSTech,he served as Assistant Professor at the Department of Cell Biology, University of Alabama at Birmingham. He was appointed as Associate Professor at the Department of Pathology, University of Pittsburgh in 2000 and was promoted to Professor in 2004. In 2009, Prof. WU was awarded an endowed chair professorship by the University of Pittsburgh.

Professor TANG Tao  received his BSc in Mathematics from Peking University in 1984 and received an PhD degree in Applied Mathematics in 1989. 
From 1990 to 1998, he was a faculty member of Department of Mathematics at Simon Fraser University and was granted tenure in 1996. He joined Hong Kong Baptist University in 1998, and promoted to Chair Professor in 2003.
He was awarded Leslie Fox Prize for numerical analysis in 1988 and Feng Kang Prize for scientific computing in 2003. From 2005 to 2009, he had been a Cheung Kong Chair Professor appointed by the Ministry of Education. In 2012, he was elected as an SIAM Fellow for his "contributions to computational fluid dynamics and in particular, development of adaptive algorithms".
In Hong Kong Baptist University, Prof. TANG was Head of Department of Mathematics , Director  of Graduate School of the university, Associate Vice-President and Dean of Science. 
He was appointed Vice President for Research by SUSTech in May 2015.



WANG Duoxiang

Vice-President, Innovation

Dr. WANG Duoxiang did outstanding research in innovation management, high-tech industry development. 
From September 1988 to June 1992, WANG studied at the Department of Technical Physics, Peking University, and obtained a bachelor's degree in science. From 1992 to 2000, he served in an array of key positions at Chi Mei Corporation, Share and Xiamen Tobefar Technology Co., Ltd. (Tobefar). During working for Tobefar, he attended an MBA program at the Guanghua School of Management, Peking University and the School of Management at Wuhan University of Technology, and obtained a PhD degree in management.
Since July 2007, He joined the College of Engineering at Peking University and worked as researcher, assistant dean, dean of the Engineering Technology Research Institute, director of the Innovative Education Center and associate dean. He has been executive deputy dean of the School of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Peking University and executive deputy director of the Office of the Science and Technology Development, Peking University, vice mayor of the Baotou Municipal People's Government since June 2013, and president of the Beijing Institute of Collaborative Innovation since August 2014. He was appointed Vice President for Innovation by SUSTech in March 2016.

YE Qin

In March, 2011, Mr. YE Qin was appointed as the Deputy Director of the Preparation Office of SUSTech. He was appointed as Chief Financial Officer as well as the Director of Finance Office of SUSTech in June 2015.

Mr. YE received his master’s degree in microbiology from Beijing Agricultural University in 1986. He served successively as teaching assistant, Deputy Director and Lecturer of the microbiology teaching and research office of Northwest Agricultural University from 1986 to 1994. From 1994 to 2007, Mr. YE successively served in different positions at governmental institutions of Shenzhen Municipality, including Director of the Department of Social Development, Development and Reform Commission of  Shenzhen Municipality.

HAN Wei

Dr. Han Wei has a PhD in Education. She worked successively at Shenzhen Bureau of Education and Shenzhen University from 1992 to 2007.

In June 2007, Dr. Han participated in the preparations of SUSTech and was appointed as the leader of the Preparation Group Office of SUSTech and then promoted to the Deputy Director in August 2010. She took office as the Director of Human Resource in January 2015, in charge of Human Resource Office, Students Affairs Office, Residential Colleges and UNESCO Category 2 Institutes and Centers Preparation Office.

LU Chun

Associate Vice President, International Affairs

Chief Operating Officer 

Dr. LU Chun received his BA in mechanics from Peking University in 1984, MA from the Beijing Institute of Technology in 1987 and PhD from the National University of Singapore in 1991. He worked as a Senior/Principal Engineer in the Chartered Industry Singapore from 1994 to 1997. He joined the Institute of High Performance Computing in 1997, and worked as a Senior Research Scientist and Program Director of the Division of Large-scale Complex Systems. Dr. LU was adjunct professor at National University of Singapore and Nanyang Technological University. He joined King Abdullah University of Science and Technology in 2008, as Director of East Asia Strategic Initiatives, and later Director of International Programs.

Since 2015, Dr. LU serves as the Associate Vice President of International Affairs and Chief Operating Officer of SUSTech.


WANG Yongjie

Mr. WANG Yongjie received his bachelor’s degree in photoelectron technology from the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China in 1994. He was a civil servant in Shenzhen from 1994 to 2009 and once served as secretary of General Office of Shenzhen Municipal Government.
Mr. Wang now is a member of University Council and Director of University Affairs  Office of SUSTech.
